g60 engine major malfunction

the joys of motoring ? have my g60 running for a couple of months now then about two weeks ago it was way down on power . i got  a boost check done and it wasn't good i got the charger rebuilt and put it in the car and it drives like a 1 litre  now it has no oomph .i smelt something burning and  3 of the powerflex exhaust hangers were melted i had a look at the exhaust manifold and it was glowing red .whats happening to my engine ?could the timing  belt have slipped? as i had this same problem with it being down on power + the glowing exhaust bit as well  a few months ago, i had a fella look at it and the timing wasn't right so he sorted it and unleashed the beast now its gone back to driving like a 1 litre . i've checked all the boost pipes etc. what am i missing ?any ideas ?thanks gafo

cheers mate, i dont know what edition is?, the engines in a m.k 1 golf so  i taught somebody here would be able to sort me out with a bit of info or  has had similar trouble with there m.k 1

don't go on edition (edition38 is another forum) the best info/tech related stuff by far is www.clubgti.com, you'll get a quicker reply and it'll probably be the right one :)

timing issue either the belt is out of the dizzy has moved 100% certain

To check timing on the G60 you just need to line up the tdc(top dead centre)marker on the rocker with the cam(use a ratchet on the bolt to turn the cog),then take the dizzy cap off and check its pointing to no1.Finally take No1 spark plug out and using a screwdriver make sure the piston is at the top of its cycle(Use the ratchet on the cam again and go back n forth and see when the screw driver is at its highest point,it should be at its highest when the tdc markers line up)Ive got a mk1 G60 and this is all you need to check that its in time.Youll know if it isnt though,your exhaust will kindve back fire and not sound smooth,sounds like yours might be over fuelling or out of time i think,unsure though.Check that your belt tensioner is actually doing its job as your cam belt should be tight,ifu can turn it more than 90 degrees on the opposite side from the tensioner youll need a new cam belt

thanks for the reply ,i haven't been on in a while. i only changed the timing belt about 6 to 8 weeks ago the mechanic said the crankshaft pulley was worn well the woodruff key thingy needed replacing so my guess is the timing has slipped a bit
