engine swap

people what engine can i but in my 1.8 8v gti faster the beter, less work the better, :dontknow:

is the engine standard? or do you really want an engine swap? any engine swap is tricky if you don't know what you're doing. Standard engine should be pushing  about 110 bhp.
if you haven't done any mods to the 8v engine improve it's breathing by better exhaust, manifold and porting polishing the head, and an uprated cam. These mods should give you easy 20-30 bhp or more. Then if you're not happy find a 2.0Litre bottom end to put on.
Or the other alternative would be to fit a 16v engine (140bhp approx)either 1.8 or 2 litre, but these involve more electrical involvement. I'm sure there are people on here who could help with such conversions.
Or if you want to go the whole hog a 1.8 turbo engine fits but it's a major expence, I recon a min of about ?3.5 to 4k to get it in and running right.
