early dash clocks?

Can the early round speedos fit a 81plate gti ?ive been offerd a set and there pretty smart and just wondered wether they'll fit anyone know? :?

You mean the dash or just the instrument panel?

The dash will basically fit if it is a post-76 one with the fixings on the outside rather than inside.

If it is just the instrument panel then I do not think it will fit without changing the complete dash due to different aperture sizes, but you could offer it up to make sure.

There are other points to note. The pin connections at the main 14 pin connector are different, so the harness would need splicing (as the fuse boxes are different too). Also the speed cables are different so make sure you can get this. Finally, if the cluster is from a pre-76 you need to swap the heater panel over to allow the 3 speed fan switch rather than the sliding resistor type.

The instrument panel wont fit have try it before. But Ive got a 78 gti dash. I'II see if it fits in place of the later type and if it does I'II take some pics.

yes got the early dash to fit including heater controls. Had a go fitting it to my 87 cab took about 40 mins. I'II take some pics before I put cab dash back in. Also you would have to change the speedo and carfully fit it  to the early clocks. Not to mention a bit of rewiring.
