Complete mk4 1.8t into mk1?

Hi all.

I have got a complete mk4 1.8t donor to convert into my mk1. Is there any reason I couldn't use everything from the mk4 ie harness, ecu, clocks etc and fit into the mk1. It hasn't got to look that pretty as its a track car!

indeed you could, that would save some hassle if you use as much mk4 stuff as you can

I wish i had used the hole loom of the mk4 would of saved a lot of time in the long run i think.

Apart from getting the power down once its running no… oh and every time you need to do turbo work out comes the engine lol

Can the standard 1.8t gearbox and linkage be used? (i think it is a o2a) if so where can I get a mounting to suit?

Mk4 gear box out the 1.8t is a 02j mate and get them of ebay or just caddy or crazy quiff ect

I have found the cambelt side one £80. I think I have the gearbox side one but it's £150! Can I use my original rear mount?

You mean the dog bone leg mount at the bottom back if so no you should get two brackets for the gear box the one for the side and one that comes off the back that fits the mk1 rear mount this replaces the dog mount.

Yer there the two you need mate the one without the round part goes on the back and connects to your block mount on the mk1

Same ones! Haha yeah cheers for that so them 2 for the gearbox and that cambelt one and it should sit right! Just the shafts to sort. Will the cable gear linkage be ok?

what selector you using ?

The one that's with the mk4. My idea is to transfer as much as poss from the donar to cut costs and agro!

Cheap set of gearbox mounts in the classifieds here, abfmk1 selling them

Should be fine i used mk4 and ran it in the exhaust tunnel some people say the cables are to long but mine fit spot on
