Brake Conversion
Im looking to put mk2 256mm discs on to the mk1 in currenty dropping a mk2 16v lump into. Im using rocco shafts which are right lenght and fit 100mm mk2 diff cups, therfore retaining the mk1 hub. Ive heard to fit 256 discs to the mk1 hub with mk2 calipers i need audi 80 calipers carriers? What year, dose anyone know?

Need Advise
Hi there, hope your big brake conv. is going well…
Im just about to do the same on mine but im unsure about the servo and master cylinder thing??
It says it is 'best' done with the 22mm master cylinder?? and the servo up grade, where are these parts from (16v im guessing).
Also can it be done with out up grading the mc and servo and leaving the old one on.??
Any advise would help greatly.
Thanks.

It can be done with the old servo & m/c but upgrading will give better pedal feel and less effort required to stop. It will also help move the larger pistons in the uprated callipers…
Check the braking faq for how to do it and what cars to get the parts from… I would get a new m/c from somewhere like gsf (?25 ish…). I got the 22.2mm from a passat as it has 4 outlets rather than the 2 the 16v golf one has…

brake conversion
Im using all the braking systems off the 16v im using as the engine donner. I was lucky enough to find a set of audi 80 carriers (off a 85-88 coupe) which cost me ?5 instead of the ?256 Jay at Big Boys Toys saw the last set go for on ebay
This enables a simple bolt on bolt off for 16v 256 disc conversion, you will need the calipers and pads from a 16v. Then just bolts it all on the Mk1 using the audi carriers. Ive done this last week and it went together easy. (Now just for the rear stub axel swap) As woZa said it really is a worth while investment using a 22mm M/S and servo which is from the 16v. You have to shorten the M/S link to fit, exactly how much etc im not sure yet as im not quite at this stage.

10mm. I think there's a pic somewhere in the Braking FAQ, which shows the simple mod. (I took the pic).
