Bike carbs on a 1400cc golf mk1

Hi guys im from south africa we have 1.4 8v golf mk1's here, Im interested in fitting 4 bike carbs on it for more performance. but i can't find much about it. what will i need? what type of bike carbs will i need?

There are many types of carbs that will work for this. The hard part will be getting a manifold. The best bet is to fab one up or have somebody fab one. Stainless steel is a good choice for material.

A lot of grassroots motorsport guys do this. The preferable carb is that from a Yamaha R1. This can be had off of ebay cheap and they use a lot of webber parts. (So they are available) For such a small motor you may want to look for a set off of a high performance 600cc bike. Mikuni carbs use quite a bit of webber parts. But other carbs can work too. All you'll really need is bit of carb jet drill bits.

I've got a set of CBR600 carbs for this which seem to be the right size for my small block, but your engine is the big block so this might not be true for you. Have a search on clubgti for ideas as there are some bigger 8v engines with bike carbs.
