From memory you want one from a 2 litre mk3 golf, i also seem to recall you will want to use the crankshaft pulley and alternator bracket from an abf, two types of alternator bracket the best one to use has the spring type tensioner the other type is in the picture above

Shaunyc is correct its a tdi filter housing you want from either a mk2 or 3 golf, i would imagine a passat or vento of the same age would be the same, this is the alternator bracket you guys want http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-mk3-8v-GTi-Alternator-Bracket-/300793746041?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4608b45279 tensioned by a spring as you can see in the pics you need the crank pulley to match so the belt pulleys are in alignment

whats the difference with the tdi, extra oil feed for turbo?
normal mk3 1.8-2.0 is same fitment to the block, and has 3 oil tappings in it. assume tdi has an extra one for oil feed? if you only need 2 tappings for pressure switches then the normal mk3 one should be ok

if i cant find one id consider shaveing a few mm of both like.

ill look into it smokey cheers man

think its the right shape with correct fittings johny however i thought it was a mk4 unit which was needed. i did however get a mk3 one today it does fit the block but the oil feed bolt from aeb is fatter on a different thread ive tapped the top tapping to accept the aeb feed and it seems ok so hope it'll work lol :D

the alternative is early type 1.8t filter housing, as you have early external waterpump type block. assume early mk4 golf and audi a3 20vt have what you require?
