ABF 2.0l 16v conversion help/mk1

Has anyone fitted a MK3 16v ABF engine and used the original exhaust manifold in a mk1 ? the studs for the down pipe are fouling the gearlinkage ! anyone found this, or have you all fitted aftermarket four branch manifolds ? Thanks John.

alrite mate ive got one in my mk 1 and iam using the convertion manifold...the only way u mite be able to use standard exhuast would be a rocco 16v manifold and dwn pipe........better to use the 4 branch loads more power fea them than standard exhaust.....

Guys, since this was eight years ago, I reckon it'll be ok for a hijack.

I too am in need of a new manifold for my abf conversion. Ashley don't do one, tsr are being obstinate again, I have messaged long-life, super sprint and storm and await their responses. The issue I'm having is that I still have the mk1/2 box with the rod change and may retain this. Albeit my current vw tech did state it won't last the course because of the power hike. I digress, are there any further alternatives to the above or can anyone make a specific recommendation or link to other providers of such goods? Many thanks guys

Collected my car today from Meercat at Kilbirnie. Good stainless work and I'm happy with the finished product. £480

Looks good.:thumbs:On my 1988 cabriolet there is a heat shield which bolts to the back of the engine and covers the rubber boot on the inner CV joint, might be worth finding one and fitting it as your CV boot may get hot and brittle being close to the down pipe.

Mark, is the CV boot protection a vw component or a home made heat shield?

I'm changing the rubber fuel lines and putting a reflective heat guard over the steering gaitors too.

It's a VW heat shield, I have one fitted to my 1988 Mk1 Golf cabriolet but there is not one on my 1978 Scirocco but I belive the engine block has the holes to bolt the heat shield to aready there.
I'll try and find a picture.

Here you go!

power wise it'll be reet, the lighter mk1 shell helps extend the life of the 020 box. I've had a mk2 16v 020 on my abf for years and its fine ;)

foir anyone else lookin g to use the stock 16v cast manifold and an 020 box you'll have to make up something like this:

even with the big kink I had to chop a notch out of the relay shaft to clear. even VW did this on the scirocco 16v, I did try to order a rocco relay shaft but they went NLA after I talked to VW about it
