8v turbo
anyone done one of these, was thinkin of doin this as opposed to the 16vT i wanted to do. basically i decided when it gets a respray i'll take the engine out and spray the bay, and thort whilst its out how difficult cud it be just to bolt on a turbo to the engine i already got, and wud be less work than fitting a 16vt as i dont have to worry bout wiring looms etc
some will probably think for best power etc it seems abit pointless goin for an 8vT as 16v has more power na than the 8v and then a turbo wud make the gains alot more significant. however if i wanted a car that had lots of power to blast round the countryside i'd buy a tin top and then do it. truthfully, i jus wanna dump valve again

somebody esle said that to me today, but i know that the chargers on them can be abit temperamental and need regular servicing = expensive and as mine is a daily hack i want longevity and reliability, plus that invoves buying a new engine etc whereas i already have my 8v lump

i supose u could do it i have never done a turbo conversion but i reckon this is what you would need:
1. lower compression: forged pistons, decompresion plate or 2 head gaskets :dontknow:
2. new manifold
3.custom managment i.e. mega squirt
also you would need to know that your engine is in tip top condition.
the chargers aren't that bad service 40000 miles with a 68mm pulley

could you not run it off the k-jet then? my r5 didnt have a ecu, that was a carb engine tho, with manual choke, but cant imagine it bein that difficult surely?

series 1 rs turbos were k-jet so it can be done
but if you wnet the efi route it would be loads better if it was me id get a 2l bottom end and then stack a coulpe of metal headgaskets then run about 8 psi with a t3 tubo job done

you can run off the mk1 k-jet system, using an audi turbo wur and dizzy vacuum canister. crude, but it'll work o.k. i wouldn't want to run big boost on it though.maccagti said

i also have a 8v i want to turbo
ive a 16v block (1.8kr)
s2 pistons rods
1 turbo technics kit
i want to aim for 220 bhp ish can i get this on k-jet or will i need extra injectors?
as any body used a volvo metering head or a 5 pot audi head as that would give me a 5th injector to help with the boost
thanks

was just gonna say! turbo technics do a manifold and pretty much a whole conversion if you can find one!

the easiest way of doing it reliably is to use the g60 engine and loom

i know the easiest way is turbo g60 but i want something out of the norm when was the the last time you saw a mk1 turbo running k-ket
i know all tt kits were good for 150ish standard but with a new turbo and more boost what type of level can i take the k-jet to?
where would i find out the pressure settings of the k-jet and what type of pressure a good system could be pushed to so i can figure out my boost limit
thanks

if you do a complete rebuild on the 1.8 engine
get the following done
lightened crank
custom rods
custom pistons
total seal rings
spacer plate for head
oversized valves
then get a custom manifold made get a T3 turbo flange welded to it
then its a case of getting enough fuel to the engine now you will be wanting to see 12 to 13 afr on boost or it will be rebuild time again
the fuel side of things is where it will get messy

Like most things if its set-up properly and the fueling and ignition are correct and you dont run silly boost pressures then a K-jet Turbo car will stay together.
Never had any major probs with mine (only when i give it to so called experts does it ever go wrong !!).
Details of the TT conversion can be find on my website here:
http://www.vwturbo.co.uk/index_files/Page1060.htm
hope this helps.
Bit of info, my car has always run K-Jet wiht the Turbo Technics, runs std pistons machined, 1 bar of boost on high setting and has ran like this for 90,000+ miles. Before this it was running .65bar high boost setting and ran for 100,000 miles before a so called specialist garage set it up and it went pop !! So in all a total of 196,000+ miles on k-jet with the Turbo. Cant complain at that I reckon for reliability
