8v conversion
How easy is the 8v 1.8 engine conversion to a mk1 compared the 16 valver? I have an engine coming my way so I'm considering the swap, especially as it's injection.
Is the conversion worth it?

You'll lose power but the 8v gti ain't bad. What's your reason for doing 8v? Cheap engine?

Seriously?
The injection has less power than the carb 1.8? Wow!
I'm being given the engine as well as all of the wiring and ECU, gearbox, drive shafts, hubs, brakes and all other enginey bits, plus the BBS wheels on it as I'm helping my mate with his 1.8t conversion, I'm pretty handy with In car electronics so I'll be doing all of the wiring for him.
It was a consideration as I thought that it would have a bit more power and get better fuel economy but I'll just keep it in a corner till the carb engine dies I reckon.

What kind of car do you have now? The Mk1 Golf came with a 1.8 injection as standard in 1982 and on GTIs.

Yeah sorry I was a bit vague! Been a long day!
I have a G reg Clipper cabrio which has the 1.8 engine, yes, the one with the Pierbug 2E carb and my friend has the 1.8 cabby GTI engine which I'm having off him.
Hope this clears a few things up.

The engine itself is easy to fit, but there's a lot of other parts (mainly fuel system things), most of which your mate will need to retain for the engine conversion. Beware, and do a bit of research on the additional parts you might need. One option is to keep it on the existing carb, but get it rejetted, and use the block (which will have a better cylinder head). His exhaust would be handy too, but it depends on the years of both cars whether it would fit.
