5 cylinder audi transplant
any one done this conversion or know of a conversion as i have seen a non trubo 5 cylinder audi engine going fairly local and just wondered if its poss to transplant it into a mk1 golf, just an idea like

Think its been done with the trubo 4wd system before, but dosnt this engine sit in front of the gearbox? bad for weight distribution, or are you thinking of fitting it sideways? ,i suspect its too long for that.

As far as I know the engine is longditudinal but the gearbox is transverse - I guess you'd need the engine and box together but I'm not sure.
I looked at an Audi Coupe recently with this configuration (2.2l 5 cylinder non-turbo) and the engine was way out in front of the front wheels, so really not ideal for weight distribution. It's supposed to be a smooth and powerful engine though, with or without the turbo…
The general advice though is usually "why go down a more complicated and expensive route to get power when a 1.8 or 2.0l 16v engine will more or less go straight in and give you the same grunt".
