You can use a gti head but you'll need to seal up the injector holes, i have seen 1p's used to do this with silcone round the edge to seal it all up the  car ran absolutley fine . For the oil cooler get down yor local scrappy and get the oil filter housing off a late mk2 8v gti (PB engine code) 88-on . The only problem you'll then have is that you cant run the standard oil cooler if you have one without using a sandwich plate (demon tweeks about ?35 but cheaper elsewhere if you look) . If you havent an oil cooler then just keep the mk2 water jacket on - you can connect it up by using a miss mash of mk1 mk2 radiator pipes but some people just leave it di connected , the choice is as they say yours .

Ive just built a 1.6 passat engine with a gti head and twin carbs. I got the local engine place to rebuild my head an block the injector holes off. All they did is unscrew the brass inserts cut some inserts (pennys) and sealed them in  using silkaflex or similar heavy duty gasket sealant adhesive then screw the brass bits in on top. As for the oil cooler i used a mk1 one, but will shortly be swapping it for a mocal one that are about ?110 new. these increase the cooling ability and give piece of mind as second hand ones can be blocked if they have been stood for a while which will not do your engine any favors.

My engine was set up on a rolling road near me and produced 104.9 bhp with the standard exhaust and the throttle linkage not oppening fully, so you can expect a fair bit of power from a 2L set up!!

Good luck and if you need any pointers or help just pm me ive got loads of pics!!

Rebuilding Again…

Ive got the tall block 2lt injection in my caddy.  you  would be better off modding a gti head. hardest bit will be the dizzy which you can get a kit for plus if you using the old mk1 wiring/ hallsender  you ll have to machine down the dizzy gear. also you ll need an after market oil cooler kit and maybe you should change the rad for a gti rad
