20vt shifter tower and cables

I have an 02j gearbox and 02A shifter tower and cables. Im looking at mounting the tower inside the car and cutting holes through into the engine bay. Ive read a few places people using lupo gti cables, can anybody shine any light on whether this is a must, or any links to what tower and cables etc they have used?

ive used a polo 16v   shifter mounted inside of the car. hole via bulkhead cables perfect lengh. used 02j tower in  02a gearbox with a audi tt short shift and relay, both these come with the new style bow catch ends. your 02a shifter cable ends  wont fit the 02j tower in gearbox. if you want to mount under the car use a mk4 1.8t shifter. if you want to mount onto i first found the mk4 cables way to long so i went scrap yard and saw a polo 16v and they were the perfect lengh. heres my you would also need the 02j cable bracket as cables sit differnt angle
