16v wiring..?
i have recently fitted my new 16v engine out of a mk2 golf into my mk1, i have all the required wiring fo the car however im unsure about the fuse box and relays, my mk1 started off as a 1.1 carb, i was wondering will all of the plugs from the mk2 16v wiring fit onto my 1.1 fuse and relay box or shall i be needing the mk2 golf 16v one itself…?

Can't say I have any experience of converting a 1.1 but if its the later style fusebox, and an early (pre 88 I think) Mk2 GTI 16V, the engine loom might just plug in, which will save some hassle. However a number of other features in the wiring will be absent from your 1.1, for example fuel pump wiring, rev counter, etc. So there will still be an amount of extra wires to run and adaption/sifting through wiring diagrams to ensure what needs to be connected, is connected.

Im doing a G60 conversion,to keep it simply im keeping the original 1.1 fuse box as it will deal with everything bar the engine management and fueling. Then im using a fuse box from a mk3 vr6 if remember right, which the ecu etc will plug into, then its just a case of running a + and - from the fuel pump to the relay. As for the rev counter if youve changed to a later speedo with a rev counter theres no wiring needed as it runs from the speedo cable anyway.

Oh and no the 1.1 box wont take the mk2 plugs, different pins on them so youll need a Mk2 box also.
