16v water pump pulley?????

hey, i've got a 1.8 16v kr engine in my mk1, (well on the garage floor at the moment!), ive brought and fitted a new water pump for it but the original water pump pulley does not fit. the hole through the pulley is far to big and the bolt holes spaced too far apart. i've been scouring the web and found that a kr engine with PAS uses 2 pulleys on the water pump as opose to 1 on the non-PAS version. just wondering if anyone knows if the size of these pulleys are different and i've brought the wrong pump? or am i just having a string of bad luck where everything i touch goes against me! this rebuild is causing me a million more problems than i thought possible. any sort of info would be massivly appreciated. :banghead:

I had to change the pulley on my kr 16v it had power steering pulley fitted. As far as i can remember I swopped to a non power steering pulley ,I  am sure the bolt holes and centre holes were the same.It sounds like you may  have the wrong water pump
If you measure the centre hole and bolt spacing I will check it against mine

I had problems sourcing a non power steering pulley

that would be a great help if you could measure yours and let me know. the pulley i have has a centre hole of roughly 40mm with the 3 holes spaced at around 50mm whereas the new water pump i have brought has a centre hole of roughly 30mm with the bolt holes spaced at around 36/37mm.
my next step is to go to vw and buy a pulley but that requires order and therefore time so idealy i like to order the right part as they're getting a bit annoyed at me ordering parts then taking them back!! the sooner i can get this sorted the sooner she's back on the road and that time just can't come soon enough!!!

This came up when I was doing the conversion as well, G60RGE had the wrong pulley on and had overheating problems.

My impression was that the Water Pump is the same part for the DX, KR nad 9A engines anyway, the number tie u[ on GS&F site anyway.

G60RGE fitted my old mk1 water pump pulley to sort him problem, I used one of the 9A pulleys with the second pas pulley removed.  They should all be interchangeable anyway!

Did the pulley you have come with the engine?  if so, likely you've got wrong pump i 'guess'.

the pulley is the one that was on the car but i don't really trust anything that was originally on the engine, its has been lashed together and was a pretty bad state when my i got my hands on it, lots of silicone instead of gaskets, bolts missing etc. hence the rebuild.
