16v supercharged. Couple of questions

Hi all undertaking a 16v charged build through the winter months and have got an abf on the way, which box would be ideal for this setup? Heard the abf box can't take abuse that well?

I know ade (Lhasa dreams) has done this conversion a d wondering how the belt is run and how many guides ae in place for the belt. Again had a search and found a thread on club gti and only showed a few ideas but nothing in concrete.

My way of doing the while build will be abf (maybe cammed)
G60 management or megasquirt (see what's available at time I'm ready for this bit)
S3 or 20v inlet modified to suit 16v head and 440cc injectors?
Clk230 supercharger (make mounting plate myself)

Anybody see any problems or any advice. Thanks.

16v gearbox would be more than capable of the job, 440's may be overkill, your looking at 210 - 220 bhp

be prepared for a very noisy car!

think theres a pic in my build thread somewhere of my old setup. sold that setup now though, threads called mk1 on bike carbs or something

What's 16v box code mate CDa is from abf right? Is o2a from mk2's 16v? Il have a search for your thread see what I can see.

I'm not scared of a noisy car it's loud as is (16v carbed but fed up of seeing carbed valvers tbh)

What charger did you use on yours and inlet etc?

Get an 02j mate, good for up to about 300bhp. You will need to convert to cable shift though. You can retain the cable clutch using some Seat parts, or go hydraulic with a pedal box or custom cylinder mount. I have a 1.8T Mk4 gearbox an shift unit with Lupo GTI cables.

The serpentine belts run depends on where you want the alternator to sit, ie like the limited or under the charger. Mine is like the limited. The belt runs from the alternator to the charger, round the water pump, round the G60 tensioner, round the crank pulley and back to the alternator. I recommend that you get a BBM tensioner adjuster, it lets you get the belt tension just spot on and compensates (with the use of washers under it) for different charger pulley sizes.

Don't over cam a supercharged engine, you really don't want overlap to lose boost from.

G60 Digifant is hard on the pocket to modify, you have to rely on places like Jabbasport. Megasquirt is good if you have the time to fiddle. I went with Emerald in the end.

The injectors depend on the power you are trying to achieve. I have 42lb ones, and they are really too big, but I had no choice as the next size down are no longer available in the body size for the BBM fuel rail. Mine generates 230bhp. Digifant does not have the resolution to control injectors of this size, well it does but it is a compromise where Lambda control had to be turned off.

Good luck and lets see some pics !!

Cheers,
Ade

Wow thanks ade! Looks like I've got a lot of research to do :) and I'm tempted to go megasquirt as there's more mapping options (friends who know stuff).

Once I get a charger and a block il get a thread up and hopefully do great detail on it :)

I may ask some silly questions I can't find answers too though :( generally search before asking bit forced intake is all new to me now :)

No worries mate, ask away :-)

I had a 16V box to begin with, to be honest I found the ratios pretty poor, 1st and 2nd were just over too quick.
Budget for a Peloquin LSD, worth every penny in my opinion.

Il be going for o2j box after more reading up. Also been browsing the bbm site. I'm looking for management first, pence engine is purchased lol. Temped to go megasquirt for now. Il keep it posted what happens :) excited!

I'm I right in thinking smaller pulley means more boost?

Potentially a smaller pulley means more boost but it also means greater rpm.
Also more compression means a hotter charge which can negate the power gain.
