then would i mate the 16v loom into the gls loom?paul_c said
Polo loom? He means polo dizzy, which has mech & vac advance. The alternative is to use the Mk2 16V ECU, which is probably the cheapest and easiest way to do it; or an aftermarket ignition ECU, which will cost a lot!

"16v loom" would be just the ignition part - which only connects to ignition components. There's only connections to the coil, earth, temp sensor, TCI and ECU. its not the "engine loom" its just a bit of wire.

The MSD setup allows for a 20* advance at 3krpms and above. it lowers the amount of retard at idle so you don't have issues trying to start it. it works great. It also has a custom pills you can buy to drop the advance at certain RPMs. At Redline you want you advance to retard a little for best performance.. but if it's a street car you should be fine without.
The units can be bought on ebay very often. or new.
MSD 6A or 6AL
MSD 8980 Timing computer
Grab your factory 6 wire ICM, 16v Distributor and you're set
Just another option for you.

run the ICM directly to the coil and the distributor. you won't get any timing change, but it's easy. I actually carry that harness in my glove box just in case.

i did not use the polo dizzy i just used the ignition loom from the polo as its fits the dizzy , i only used it for the spark ? and it worked
Any problems starting? Have you had the car rolling road tested, or done a 1/4 mile run in it (if so, what figures did you achieve)? I reckon the lack of advance is leaving you 10-20% down on optimal performance.
