16v engine with o2o gearbox???
got a 16v kr head on a 2L block with bike carbs- been enough trouble getting all that running right so just left the standard o2o gearbox for now..
havn't had the engine running in the mk1 for that long - just a few short/medium journeys a week for about two months but my inner cv joints have deffinately gone and one outer i think..
My question is - could this be due to me running the 020 box and not an 02a box??
If it the gearbox is a likely cause then there's no point me fitting new cv joints to the 90mm drive shafts as it would all have to go in exchange for 100mm
shafts anyway
thanks for your help….also anyone know of a reduced price for a cv joint set - ie: 2 x inner 2 x outer
cheers

What's your ride height? My o2o has been on the exactly same
Setup all this yet and my cvs are perfectly fine? Mines on 100mm Driveahafts though but still unlikely.

Yeah, cheaper than converting too 100mm as it will cost you eat part of 250 just to get the box in! 100 for shafts and hubs.
The o2o was running fine on 8v boxes so seems a bit daft, you've upped the bhp but no massive gain on torque etc.
Going on air is gunna wind down cv life a bit also lol.

Expensive business to fit 02a box, reckon you..ll need, conversion mounts, abf flywheel/ clutch assy, 100mm d/shafts, and either hydraulic clutch conversion or seat assy, and if you are running very low d/shafts may well still be a problem.

He speaks truth! Conversion mounts are 150, and still don't avoid the low business so its same boat, less money in your wallet.

In answer to the original question….definitely no.

Powerful 16V engine, grippy tyres, grippy surface and 020 box all work fine together.
