mines an E reg gti cab was running on 1.8 8v k-jet system, wired it all up today and all the plugs wired straight up to the 16v no problem, i just need a engine mount, plumb up the fuel lines and modify the 16v manifold onto my original exhaust then she should be ready to go

You have to wire up the ECU to get the thing to spark! If you use the previous ignition stuff (eg from stock GTI), then you'll have no vacuum or mechanical advance. The stock GTI uses a dizzy that does this, the 16V's dizzy doesn't have this and its done by the ECU.

i have used the original wiring and it does spark but like you said there is no advance or anything could this be the reason the engine is locking up wen its turning over or the reason why it run lumpy when it did start, do you thik i would be better off starting again wiring in the ecu

cheers for the advice, wired up the ecu today and wot a belta, started up without the engine locking up, run a bit lumpy for a minute or two but then ran fine right upto temp, didnt wanna switch it off then i did and it didnt wanna start after that at all, had to bump it off and ran real crap,(need to put the advance and retard pipe on from the ecu) just wondering wot it could be if it dont start wen hot, pulled out an injector and no fuel wen hot, didnt try it wen it went cold, dont get me wrong am chuffed it ran but i thought it was as easy as engine in wire it up and she be away but i was wrong dont wanna give up on her but i got another car that i gotta get on the road, sorry for going on and on am desperate to sort it

have you put the temp sensor on the side of the head its blue + white ,+i would put the advanced pipe on the ecu , as for fuel my cars fuel pump is on the igniton so when i put my igntion on the pump is on constant, check your fuel pump is coming on also check the realy hope its one of these thing m8 keep at it youll get it together in the end i did

You can use a System Porsche dizzy from a series 1 Seat Ibiza if you don't want to bother with the ECU - fit this with a Pug 205 GTI dizzy cap (the one with the bend).
Advance curve isn't perfect but it's near enough.

give it another quick turnover today and nothing, theres fuel, temp sensor is on and ecu all wired up, puzzling me on how it ran yesterday for ages and soon as i switched it off wen hot she hasnt run since, does anyone no of any veedub specialists in the east riding area ? or no of anyone in this area that has done this conversion with sucess, i could do with someone to have a look and shed sum light on the situation, has anyone had these problems before
