1.8t o2j gearbox cups

Post

Hi all, carrying out 20vt conversion using an o2j gearbox. These are the shafts I got when I brought the mk1 (no engine fitted)

Will the mk4 cups fits onto these shafts?

No mate, the standard cups won't fit on an 02J or 02A box. You need to measure the outer diameter of the inner cv joints, if they are near enough to 100mm then you will need to buy these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-02J-100mm-FLANGES-1-8T-CONVERSION-MK1-MK2-MK3-GOLF-G60-CORRADO-20VT-BAM-AGU-/140935038427?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20d06205db

Your old cups on the mk4 gearbox have an allen key in the middle, you simply unscrew this and swap the cups for the ones above. Then the shafts you picture will marry up to the box perfectly. :thumbs:Hope that helps mate.

If they turn up! I have brought them this morning but I think the listing was wrong due to the quantity being 2 but selling 1 pair!

Looking at the listing it said there were 2 lots available and 2 were sold. eBay wouldn't let it sell twice if there was only one available mate so I think you are ok.

Cheers for that! That's a new feature to eBay being able to see how many people are watching the item!

For anyone who finds this thread after a search, the driveshaft cups are not massively rare. You are looking for a very early Mk4 98/99 or very late Mk3 both with 02A boxes, this is not limited to golfs just anything under that variant (Corrado etc) The cups should have the allen key bolt in the middle. You may struggle to see the bolts when fitted, as there is grease packed on top of the bolt. Just stick the allen key into the middle and you should be able to feel it. The earlier cups were not removable afaik.

If you have a good breakers near you, you should be able to find them. I did and mine only cost me £20. But for convenience at least they are easier to buy on eBay, you can buy them from VW for about £110 new. If you really can't find them anywhere. Not sure what the part number is though.
