1.8 16v engine on twin carbs into a mk1 clipper cabriolet???
Can you please help me with these questions:
It is a 1.8 8v weber carb at the moment will this make the convertion alot easier?
Whats the best 16v engine to use?
How much do you think this convertion will cost me?
Many thanks, Matt

Well engine wise its up to you, either 1.8 16 kr from the mk2 golf or 1.8 corrado or go with a 2.0 16v 9a or ABF from a either mk3 golf, passat 16v or late 2.0 corrado
The issue is cost, using a 1800 will cost ya pennies as there are loads on the go. they make good power. my choice would be the 2.0 as it produces better low down torque making it a better driving engine as well as chucking out a shed load more power… but its harder to find!
the carbs will be pricey unless you can source them second hand. you'll also need brake upgrades and an exhaust manifold which should set you back a few pennies unless sourced cheaply too.
In summary, a good 16v set up on carbs could come in around ?500 to a ?1000 if you bargin hard and hunt around going up to "skys the limit" it you recondition the engine, new parts etc…
