1.8 16v conversion info
after info about sorting the wiring, how much of it i need, whther its best to use the tsr conversion loom. also what does the tsr loom replace.
whether i can use the standard manifold, or need a proper conversion one.
Which mounts are best i.e. new standard or tsr uprated ones.
sorry about all the questions, like i said i'm new to vw's. been driving peugeots for a few years.
Cheers

Old Timer
wiring is very simple, all u need is the ecu and ignition timing module from the 16v, if u can get the loom off the donor car without damaging it then id say use it as a tsr loom costs ?120, its only about 5 wires anyway…
the extra wiring u will need is for the idle stabalisation valve, which extends to behind the dash into a relay type box (which u need). unless u use the air aux valve from the mk1 in which case wiring is kept down to a minimum as u use the exising plug.
i used an ashley conv manifold but it cost me ?225 and it isnt even stainless! (apparently they withstand longer to cracking anyway) i also wrapped it close to where the steering rack mount are as its very close and didnt want the heat to melt them 8O if i could get hold of a scirrocco 16v one i would use that as its much quiter, then just get it ported/polished if ur after more performance.
i used a standard but new mount with bugpack insert (needed modifying due to crap quality) for the cam belt side, an uprated front mount and a standard gearbox mount as otherwise u will get vibrations on your dash…
better still use a diesel rear gearbox mount as its said to be a little stiffer!
good luck!
