whos is now off the road for winter?

anyone already tucked thier MK1 up for winter? if so whats your plans for winter mods / fixes

Boris is now off the road due to a minor gear box problem (I think the diff is about expolde..but I maybe wrong   ) and for aload of other niggling issues, so expect a new and improved boris to make an appearance at Spring GTi    if hes ready in time…… ops:

My GTI is in garage with tax running out end of this month with knocking from front end that may be gearbox. Whats the symptoms of yours? Would have prob SORN'ed it anyway. Can try and isolate the problem and fix at my liesure over the winter, cold concrete floors, icey metal bits, numb fingers, lovely.
 
Cabrio still on road.

Tax on mine runs out end of October so I have just enough time to take him to the Malvern Classic in a couple of weeks.  Also gives me just enough time to clear my dads garage before it goes in there over the winter.

During that time I have a 3-page list of little jobs to sort out, ranging from fixing door handles to clay-baring.  Thankfully nothing too serious just yet

I run mine through rain and shine mate, not snow though . I've got another car but just can't resist driving it so will only take it off the road if I've got work to do on it.

My cabby will be off the road end of Nov when tax runs out……Gti aint seen the road for years by the looks of it  :roll:

Yep mines in the garage Tax expires end of the month,I have sorn'd it till next year,going to replace front engine mount tomorrow with the Autocavan one I bought earlier this month and then later on this year replace entire rear beam with a new item I have.

mine sounds a bit nasty if you jack one wheel up and spin its a bit crunchy when it takes up the slop in the system. (once the slops been taken up its fine but its that inital play thats worrying)

mine is off the road, but as a non-runner so been off road for 2-3 years. going to be keeping me busy through the winter………


    mmmmnnnn……why buy a project for winter when working outside on the backyard ????   must be a mk1 thing ???? or am i just daft..

Im not… its just why run the very noisy, thirsty and scarry in the wet mk1 in winter when I have the Audi with leather seats, climate control, ABS, traction control etc, and a bloody good heater!!!

Im not that lucky to have an Audi with or without leather seats so she will be on the road all winter.  :cry:   Maybe we can car share!

Im just getting mine on the road, years tax and we're off :wink:

Rain or shine, my mk1 is to be used :wink:

Mines' used all year round, but not often if you know what I mean.  

With a choice of van, car, motorbike and bicycle my daily transport varies.  Usually it's cycle all year round, motorbike on rainy days and the Golf when i want to drive for fun

Mine's still on the road till the gritters come out!

Then it's Audi time till the end of March

hopefully mine will be back in a few weeks so i dont care bring on the roads !! i need to get back in a mk1 im sick to the back teeth of my mk2 it needs to go
think im gonna p/x it for a lupo tdi or something next year

Mines on the road throughout winter. Despite being polished to death through summer, it gets used whatever the weather is.

We can hardly have a NW meet without any mk1's turning up can we?  

Mines is only jkust getting on the road,well hopefully today,went for its MOT resit so fingers crossed!!!

I have a second car with all the toys and crap that take the fun out of driving too but just can't be without the MK1. I certainly couldn't go all winter without driving it!
