Which Stereo??
It's high time I got a stereo with a cd player and ideally a front auxillary input (for ipods etc).
Can anyone recomend me one which doesnt look like it's come straight out of Halfords.. basically inconspicuous and not silver with a disco on the screen! I was looking at the Kenwood KDC-241SA but I would really like some recommendations.
THANKS!!

I'd personaly go for a Nakamichi CD-300
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/…rs_PP&hash=item3a586278da
It does not have a 3.5mm input but a fm transmitter would sort that.

I had a very similar brief to you lol this unit s class! it powers uprates speakers no danger! The green light on it can be adjust (as in intensity) and the greeny yellow is the exact colour of the other lights in your mk1 golf! ideal id say the user interface is bob on had a direct ipod input that come out the back of the unit which I very sneakly have in my ash tray wound up so if i wanna use it i open my ash tray james bond esque i think you'll agree. its also has a direct 3.5mm jack on front but if you like your music qulaity good and you have decent speaker i wouldn't go there personaly 4 of my mates have this unit as of using mine I cant recommend it highly enough very retro looking and the matt black areas suit Vdubs to a tee!

Why not leave your original stereo in place and convert it to take aux in for ipod..
OR
just get an amp and power all speakers from that, then just plug your iphone straight into that??
I'm considering soemthing along nboth lines in mine

Lawsy,
Can you explain further please, maybe run an article?
I have no head unit in mine (and only one dash mounted speaker!) and would love to connect an ipod WITHOUT adding a head unit if possible. Any idea if it can be done??

Hi mate its easy
get a headphone lead to 2 phono leads and plug into ipod..
then get an amp, in your case a small one would do, run power from battery to amp and then plug in the 2 phone leads to the input on amp, then use output and connect speakers up..
this woudl then give you control of volume only through the ipod, but would solve having to have a seperate unit
other option, is mount a head unit out of site, plug ipod in to that and then use thatfor controlling volume etc..

Dude,
i am looking into a new deck for my Cabby
let me point out just a few things that a mate of mine pointed out to me
1st you need to get a deck that will support all your outputs that is speakers
example if you have just simple front speakers then a 2 channel deck is cool
but if your like me and your running 4 speakers and a sub in the boot
then you need a 4 channel deck.
also i am working on threading my ipod cable that comes out
from the back of my deck threw the ash tray
that way i can slip my ipod in the ash tray while its connected
and if you wanna connect your ipod and play most of your
music through your ipod you should make sure that
the deck you get allows you to navigate your ipod through your deck
because it sucks having to play with your ipod while driving.
so i would recommend something with a flip out screen
1 they are easy to navigate your ipod tunes with
and 2 they fold away out of sight
PS get an AMP and a big SUB as chicks dig that

that al depends on how you do it.
if you are going to run a small amp and control from your ipod then get the amp first, but its probably this lead

excellent help guys, thanks. I've gone for a very basic blaukpunt with a tape deck but it has an aux jack on the back which i can do the 3.5mm cable trick with to my ipod in the dash somewhere. I like to keep it as close to original as possible with an uprgraded feel if you like. There should defo be a 'how to' thread added in the forums for this kinda thing tho!

I bought and fitted one of these
http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=KDCBT8044U
Its pricey I know but it does have rear usb ( I have connected to a USB hard disk behind my center console or it will connect to Ipod).
It has bluetooth so allows hands free dialing and downloads your phonebook onto the stereo
it fitted straight on to my stereo loom
I also fitted some new door speakers( cant remember which ones, only 15 quid though) and I bought these
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140345050299&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
so I didnt have to chop into my speaker loom to connect my new speakers
Cheers
