tips on curing a squeaky dashboard?

Something I would like to sort out over winter while my cab is off the road is I remember (it has been months since I drove it!) is it had quite a few squeaks and rattles under the dashboard. If nothing else its irritating and spoils the experience of driving it, I know its characteristic and adds to the charm as all of my past mk2s were the same, but I want this one to be quieter. Can I just pack some sponge under there and maybe fit some sponge pipe insulation on the crossbar? Anyone else done anything about a sqeaky dash?

if you remove the dash,on the panel right below the windscreen theres 3 metal clips that the dash engages onto for location,i copper greased mine and the squeeks went away, the dash vibrates and they squeak

I'm with bert.

I also put foam tape under any bit of loom/cable that touched the chassis and cable tied/ clipped everything where possible.

Did the trick for me. No rattles whatsoever!

To be honest mate it went into hibernation about a week or so after I visited you, but it was definately better, only let down by me not fabsealing it, but that will be done before it goes anywhere near a rain cloud.

Its now got a 1600 Kjet engine, 4 branch manifold, coilovers, only things left that I want to do is get another interior as close to my original colour scheme as possible (which has proved difficult) and possibly a change of wheels.

Happy new year btw mate.
