Tickover on an 87 Cabby

Can any one advise me on the tickover revs on start up and when warm as I have a sneaky suspicion that mine are too high. From cold about 1500 to 1700 and when warm about 1100 to 1200. Am I right and if so how do I put this right.
Also popped along to the East Coast Buggas (Mainly beetles) the other night and found someone who had a complete set of chrome and black side strips. Bought them and now able to finally be happy with the look again. Very glad I went now. Will post first pictures up by next weekend.

Tick over should be around 800-900 when hot

Thanks for that and although not an expert I figured it would be high as it sounded a bit to racey to be right. Is it just a case of making adjustments to the carb and if any one has some advice on how to do that correctly would be very much obliged.
