Ticking

Hi all,

Am wondering if anyone has experienced this or knows what the cause/problem could be - Whenever I switch on the ignition I get a sort of ticking noise coming from just below/behind the drivers seat. The noise keeps going until the igntion is swtiched off again.

Any thoughts?

Hi mate,

No GTI, just 1.8.

Fuel pump huh? Would that be pricey to replace?

Cheers

well its not the fuel pump as the carbs models don't have the pump in that area

will the car turn over?
is the battery dead?
could it be a soleniod?

Yeah, turns over and runs, drives fine so what ever it is isnt having a obvious effect on the running of the car, its just a noise that im sure should be there. Not sure about Solenoid mate,  im a rank amature where mechanics and electrics are concered.

could it be a tappet?

Really not sure, its coming from the area sort of underneath the middle of the car on the drivers side.

is the noise there when the engine is running but not moving? or just when the car is moving?

but it does sound like a fuel pump to be honest, mine has always made that noise, but i'm sure the carbed models shouldn't have an electric pump! what does the logbook say? and any pics of the engine bay for us

Cracked exhaust?

Yeah the noise is there when the engine is running and the car not moving. Well, the paper work says its a 1.8 Carb however, I do know the engne was replaced from the origanl at some point according to the differing engine numbers on paperwork but current V5 states 1.8 Carb.

I'll take a pick of the Engine bay and post it up, see what you guys think.

Cheers for your help so far fellas!
