Shaved bays

I am in the prosses of shaving my engine bay and was thinking where do people rout there speedo cables? or is there some way i can use the origonal clocks?

Don't forget to scrape the lettering off your tyres either. Then take a picture of your wheels and your trainers and post it on the internet.

think he means smoothing the bay,get rid of scuttle panel and battery tray etc and no cables showing

And then fitting a transparent bonnet?

I had to look twice, thought it sounded a bit rude, but maybe my sense of humour lol

Somes wires get run along the inner wing and then popped through but not sure which ones.  If that is any help.   :dontknow:

As for smoothed bays and speedo cables I think Jason Buckley (not sure if that is spelt right) and his yellow 16 valve mk 1 might be worth a look. plus the white 16 valve on bike carbs from DC9. I havent seen anything lately that i can think of with anyone hiding the speedo cable as  of the route it has to take, could heat wrap it and run it under the manifold but it will still have to start and finish in the same place I suppose.

id love to smooth my bay eventually but would be so much work to keep clean dunno if i would have enough time, its hard enough getting time to wash the motor.
if you do end up going for it post up a few pics or a build thread would love to watch the process

I tryed finding pictures of the inside of the white mk1 but couldnt find any. To see what dials its running.
But thats if they acctually work as it has no wipers or anything so its not being driven. lol
Dont think ive seen yellow one? anybody got a link? or pictures they can post up?
My rims are abit dirty atm being on my mk2 daily. But cheers.

I got no sarcastic comments at all on vw vortex when i asked this same question. lol. Odd.
Although somebody told me that maybe i should get a digifiz setup. lol unlikely to be found and unlikely i can afford.
Would like to stick to the normal gauges tbh so just mioght have to leave the cable there. Ah well.

just because he wants a smooth bay doesnt make it a chav car, a hell of alot of work is involved and fair play to anyone who has the time and know how to do it.

Just ignore anyone who think it's a chav thing to do. You're only tidying your engine bay it's not as though you're putting on a crappy bodykit and stickers. IMO when done well a shaved bay looks reaaly smart. Don't see how it's any different than after market alloys or chrome bumpers, or are peole who do that now branded as chavs also?

Yeah they deffinatly look good when they are done well. But if mine will look like its done well that is a different matter lol.

I was talking to somebody abotu my mk1 im doing up and he said t me "wow thats realy cool you should put a massive sound systme in it and a realy wide body kit" Acctually made me hate him a little bit and i walked off.

Hey, good luck with the engine bay. Don't listen to any stupid comments from idiots ( I.E transparent bonnets etc ) They are all that is bad with forums. When you post up the pics of the finished job, it'll all be worth it
