SERIES ONE GOLF GTI QUESTION

This is my first post here and i'm just wondering what years the series one golf gti were made and an idea of how many were produced and an estimate of how many are left now.  Would also like to hear what series one owners think of their cars and why they chose it over the series 2.

Hi there. Not sure of the numbers but if its any interest to you we a 1991 clipper. I actuall work for ford and mazda, but like the shape of the cars and the vw scene seems to the freindliest place i know. Never any trouble with these people and we all have stuff in common. i find that a lot of people respect the old vw's. Not sure why myself, does anyone hav the answer?

The series 1 reminds me of the Cal look beetles  

I would say they are popular because they make a better show car.

I think the first s1 gtis were on R reg, lhd .But then what do i know?!
