Price guide
Ive seen a series 1 gti for sale, it has no mot but 'looks' solid enough, however the guy wants like ?2000 for it. the price guide says it should be about ?500 obviously people want abit of money for their mk1s, even more so a series 1 so does the guide need updating or do people just make their own price up?

When I first started looking for my first Mk1 2 years ago the prices seemed much lower than they do now. Some guy, for example, was selling a Gx on eBaylast week. Fair enough the condition was decent, however it wasn't mint and didn't have Tax - his reserve was ?900.
I was like mate, you won't get that for it will you listen to Buy it Now offers and he said no, no point i'll leave it in my garage for a month until the value rises.
I just laughed, it's a 1983 not a 1974 model. He was asking way too much and as I thought it didn't sell.
There's a few that are, I feel, quite over priced now on the for sale section. It's a pain in the neck.

Is the price guide abit out of date? or do people who sell their cars just want too much and jumping on the MK1 bandwagon?

A car with no MOT is not worth much unseen. If it really is a decent car why not put an MOT on it or at least a recent failure sheet with the bad points?

The price guide is out of date and needs updating IMO. I guess no one can be bothered to do it. Its a very poor show indeed.
look forward to your finished updated guide.thankyou

Some people are after well in excess of 10k for their motor. If 1 is ready to pay for it why not :?

As its name implies its a guide,so it doesn`t really need updating.Practical Classics has a mint condition mk1 as ?3500,I paid a lot more than that for mine so the guide didn`t help me,as said trillions of times "its only worth what you`re willing to pay for it" a bit like ebay really
Don't want to butt in guys but I'm in the market for a Mk1 and to be honest I wouldn't expect a guide to be accurate. Isn't that why it's called a GUIDE? Surely prices fluctuate all the time, values go up and down and location also plays a big part in what you can expect to pay not to mention scene tax, speed of sale and so on…
Anyway I'll be using it and I'm grateful to whoever put it together, top marks from me.
