Outer Rear Anti Roll Bar Clamps

Post

Fitted new rear anti-roll bar clamps today  - standard roll bar, new clamps, new standard bushes.I have found that the end result is the rubber bush is rather "squashed" out at one end - I think this must be inevitable due to the tapered clip - one end must be tighter than the other.Anyone else had this experience????? Are the brackets not tapered to allow for the clip taper, I cant remember, but that looks awful

On mine the clip and the clamp were tapered but they are a complete pig to fit, up there with one of the most difficult jobs I've done on my MK1! I fitted mine while the axle was still on the car and there was lots of swearing, sweating, bashed fingers and giving up for the night and finishing it off the next day and it looks about the same as yours!

Please, who ever sold the clamps with the bolted end, bring them back to the market. I need them, and I am sure lots of other will be pleased....

Thanks for giving me some peace of mind Saulty - after abfmk1's "awful" comment I was thinking I had better rip it all off and try again!!!!!!!!!!!!  For the third time!!!!!!!!!!!  My brackets came from one the main reputable suppliers and were NOT tapered.  On end of the clamp where the clip "slides on(!)" there was a 45deg angle on it rather than a blunt end - so I started the clip at that end.  See the image below of the original - no taper.  When you think about it it is inevitably going to distort the rubber bush if you fit a taper clip to a straight bracket.  I assume the factory originals were better shaped?????

I am not happy with the look - but cannot see another way.

Good to see you are a local Bristol GTi - mines off the road at present.

Lol, glad I gave you some peace of mind, I thought it would be a doddle to do and decided one evening that I would do a few jobs and that would be the last one because it would just slide on! How wrong could I be! Mine came from VW Heritage and both bits were tapered and it slid on no problem when off the car!
I didn't realise you were Bristol area as well, whereabouts are you?

Still troubled by them though - even after three fittings!!   At least I am doing them off the car as I am refurbing the back end - the old clamps were sho As you can see in pic below there is no taper on the clamp - also bought from VWH.  I am in Chepstow by the way. SAM_0196.JPG .
