Oil question
Interested to know what you guys put in your engine. Im running a 1.8Gti (83) and looking to do my first service with it. I want the best oil possible but so far ive found 3 grades that are possible for use.
I ran 10w 40 Magnatec in my Mk2 previously and it teneded to burn it therefore I had to top up on a regular basis, something id like to avoid this time around.
Whats your recommendations chaps?
Cheers, Tim

Used to use GTX but got outta that habit and now use 10/40 semi with a genuine filter, change every 6 months..

I use 20w/50 Duckams, it works well and isn't stupidly priced, its also whats suggested in the haynes manual. Most of the high performance oils are for performance engines and give no real benefit to the 25 yr old mk1 engine.

i agree with foot long, remember its a 25yr old car, it was never designed to ran on Synthetic manufacturer tolerance have got better over the years hence why my dad can stick 0-30w in his audi, go for a good quality oil (i have always used vws one or castoral) 15-40w mineral or semi 15-40w any thinner and your going to start burning it and that just money down the drain!!! use a Genuine oil filter, change them regular and that engine will go on and on, and i wont use and engine flush either!!
