I have owned my beloved mk1 campaign now for over 10 years. Me and my brother share the same passion for old VWs. Between us we ave three mk1 GTis. I have noticed that over the last 6 months the amount of money people are wanting for their mk1s has gone from around £2500/3000 for a nice one and possibly £4000/5000 for a mint one, to between £9000 and £12500. Is anyone buying for this sort of money? I have always said I will never sell mine as the mk1 was my first car and it is still the most exciting car I have driven.
Just interested to know if people are paying that sort of money for them? And what do people now think they are worth?

I'm friends with the owner of classic car company that has sold mint low milers for that sort of money and more. So it is happening. But I know he gets complaints from mk1 golf enthusiasts for "unnecessarily pushing the prices up". But really it has nothing to do with that, if you want a really nice low mileage GTI, its almost impossible to find and supply and demand alone is responsible.
In Germany the prices are way higher than here, just check German ebay! Probably a sign of things to come here maybe…

I saw these two on Ebay this week and thought pretty much the same:
Car 1 - £12,495
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen-Golf-GTi-Mk1-/121159319437?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item1c35a87f8d
This looks very nice and could easily pass for new looking at those pics (Apart from the rusty drivers strut top!).
It has however done around 80K, which is very good for a car of this age.
Nothing looks untoward in the pics, though I just can't see this getting nearly £12.5k
Car 2 - £10,500
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-GTI-MK1-CAMPAIGN-ORIGINAL-CLASSIC-CAR-/251317601376?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3a83b24460
This one looks too steep to me. OK, 90k is good, if it is genuine, but it is missing it's side stripes and the centre caps are not correct.
Up close, how many other little things are wrong, considering it is a "Campaign".
My Mk1 is also my first car, which I have owned for almost 20 years!
I have come close to selling it in the past, but the longer it stays, the harder parting will become. I think it is here for good!

That black one will sell for that money, trust me they've sold a fair few now.

The black one will probably end up abroad along with the others they've sold.

The car in the first ad has been posted up on a Subaru forum I frequent, seems a little steep to me, they also have a nice mk2 G60 for a little less, however, it's the duex chevaux that they want £13k for that gets me

I've had a look round that 2cv, its literally like brand new. That g60 is also awesome condition, inside and out… But the fake BBS lenso's have no place on a car like that!
