I'm pretty certain the Mk1 GTI was never available as an auto. The manual was originally available in red, white, black and silver. Lhasa green and Helios blue (+ metallic grey?) were very late additions (1983 only?). This is from memory, somebody here will no doubt give you the absolute answer!

Is that the same as the MkV GTI? Oh, and grey. But can you get the MkV in any colour?

Not so fast! A small handful of 1.8 injection auto cabbys were made (most were carburettor but I believe a few late models had the combination of injection and auto). I don't know if this is a 'real' DX GTI engine, or a Digifant, or a de-tuned (95bhp) catalyst engine, though….

Hi, I know that this post is very old now but I have just joined the forum and I own a Mk1 GTI Auto in White. I would also like to know how many were made. Who knows, I may have a rare little car indeed! Cheers

The Rivage came with an Automatic option and they are GTI.
Sometimes things get mislabelled. I think there was an option for the GLI, but not sure if that was limited to 1.6 which became the 1.8 a little later on.
