Mk1 Golf trailer
Hi all,
As per title has anyone ever built a Mk1 Golf trailer using a Cabby shell ? if so are there any pics around ? This is something I fancy doing once I finish the car itself, It seems there are plenty of donor cars about so should not be too difficult but any pics or info would be great, Thanks.

Where would you be cutting off the unwanted bit and attaching the towing hitch?

I can understand a bbq made from a mk1 but as a trailer like the one on ebay, i don't get it :dontknow: a bit of a waste of a good rolling shell but each to thier own i guess.

The one on the link must have a noseweight approaching 200kgs, which is about 4x what most cars can take. Also, it would be quite expensive to do it properly, you'd need to use a proper trailer hitch and redo the brakes to be auto-reversing. Of course, you could just ignore all the regulations if you wanted to…..

If you google mk1 golf trailer ther is a blue cabby looks like its German or Dutch. I guess that is more of what you are thinking of. That one on eBay looks pony ! Needs to be cut at the B pillar to remove most of that weight.

i was half way through one and decided i had better things to do with my time, i cut a cabby shell straight down in front of the roll over bar and welded it up, cut the roof a little longer than where the roll over bar is so it folded over, never got around to sorting out how to fix this down, and my plan was to weld up off the strengh beams underneath the floor to attach the towing gubbins

Some nice pics there Guys, Its just at the thought stage right now but i would like to do one obviously i would not just go out and buy a complete car and butcher it i would be looking to find one thats already destined for the big scrapyard in the sky, I realise a lot of work would be needed ie the towing hitch etc but I am very resourceful
so I will get round that, Probably looking to cut it from behind the doors backover and start from there however I must finish my car itself before I tackle another project gonna have to start a new thread on here with my pics once I start the car.
