Hey

I have found a limited edition mk1 cabby (Christmas Cabriolet) and its actually in my price range  :D

I was wondering if anyone knows any info about this model, I have found a bit of info but not much.

Also what to look for when viewing it.

Thanks

check engine hot and cold, drive it listening for any bearing noises etc, have a good look at the body, rot is harder to fix than a water leak if you get my drift

hey vicky,

do a search on cab cc (searchbox top of forum^), there is a thread every other week about it, and how it's not coco chanel special edition etc.

For what to look for when viewing, there is a great guide on the right of the homepage, read it start to finish, it's ace.

Welcome along btw, and good luck.

make sure you get a good look at the history opf the vehicle, and that it ties up with the mileage etc.
check cambelt replacement - has it been done.
check what advisories (if any) were issued with the mot (present or last couple of years) - always a good indication of wht may have been done.

as said before, make sure you hear the engine running, i'd make sure you get it forst when its stone cold, (so you can see what its like on cold startup)
take it for a drive listening out for abnormal noises from the wheels and engine.

let it get hot (i'd say till the rad fan cuts in) that way you know it won't boil over.

whilst its running make sure its not smoking (blue or white) from the exhaust (when warm)

also make sure all the electrical instruments work that should (heaters hot and cold, all lights etc… )

lastly,

welcome to the club and happy dubbin'!

here for a good time, not a long time

Hi Vicky, that looks really nice! The only thing I can see that might not be original is the outer hood. I think these originally were dark blue and had the CC logo on them. It's to be expected with the age of the car that it would be have been changed by now though so I really don't think it detracts much at all. If the current outer is black it might be nice to swap for a dark blue mohair one in the future (if you buy the car) and want to get it to nearer to original spec.

I have a 'CC' brochure to sell, give me a shout if you buy the car and would like the brochure. If you want any details of the specification from the brochure let me know.

There's another thread on this board for the 'CC': NBirkett - VW Driver Magazine So it might be worth looking out for that edition of VWDriver when it's out.

Good luck with it!  :D

Hiya

Thanks, I am quite excited about this one, I like the idea of having a limited edition car  :D and so does the boyfriend, so it will be well looked after! can't wait!

And if I do get the car I will give you a shout regarding the brochure as it would be nice to have with the car  :D  :D  :D

I've got one of these although it's nowhere near as original as yours!  I'm not sure if they came with a red trim on the front grille, however thats just about the only issue I can see.

Essentially, the only thing that changes from a standard Mk1 Cabby is the specialist interior trim, CC logos and the white alloys.  Mechanically it's exactly the same as any other, so the usual buyers guide will be the tool you need.  If you want to get really picky, damaged or missing trim will be hard to replace due to the rarety of the 'CC' material.

I've got a feeling that the European version had a red grille, and American had chrome.

Has it still got all the monogrammed interior? The roof lining, visors, seats, door cards….everything was monogrammed with CC. If any of that is missing it should be reflected in the price. A completely original one would be top price!

It looks very tidy.

Indeed it has all the original interior, I was wondering about the red grille, but think it looks cool anyways  :D

We are hopefully going to see it soon, when the snow clears up.

Asking price is £1600 ono - no tax, but 9 months MOT  :P

Sounds like a fair price.  I paid £2k for mine in the middle of summer.

Cool, he also said he was flexible on price, seeing as it has no tax, I can maybe haggle a bit lol.

from the pictures that looks like a very tidy cabby 8)

Also when checking the car have a good look at underneath ( take a torch )
look for rust & fresh underseal / paint that might be covering rot.

good price if all is right :D
