What colours were the mk1 golf GTi available in…?

I think originally in the late 70s you could only have red, silver or black?

Some nice metallic greens and other colours available to continentals that we didn't get.

Mars red is the archetypal GTI colour;

Beutifull looking car mate

When Mars Red coloured GTi's are in mint nick as yours is they look fantastic but when the sun gets to the paint they can look really shabby really quickly.

On a similar vein, who knows what colour the red grille trim is - is it the Mars Red of the era (No2 post 1980)

I can't remember ever seeing a grey GTI myself…

If not i cant see why anyone would choose to paint a car this colour, only my opinion obviously

Is the Oak Green you have listed the same Oak Green which was used on the MK2?

Incdentally my favourite colour for a MK2

Hi guys I'm going to be getting my golf resprayed and I'm after a colour that was used at around the time it was originally built which was 82. I love the Mars red but I'm trying to get a rare colour as I'm not a fan of the lhasa green that mine is currently in… which might have something to do with the below par respray the last owner had done… I've considered the oak green as I like it on the mk2 but I'm not sure if it would look as nice on the mk1. Any ideas as to what I should go for?

If you're changing the colour completely and want to keep it in the same era then I'd go for Atlas Grey. You hardly see any of them around anymore 

With Lhasa green for 82 & 83 am I right in thinking there are several shades of Lhasa green, 3 I think

Are they year/month specific??

Oooooh mines 'rare'. I have an 85 in original metallic black.

Anthracite? What do you guys think? I've never seen another….
