Longshot

I know this is very unlikely, but is there anyone around the manchester area that isn't doing much tonight, has a bit of know-how about mark 1's ignition etc and can get to SK15 2TZ that wouldn't mind helping out a fellow mark 1 owner to try and get his car going!

I've already stated what the problem is in the Small Block Carb Engines section so yeah!

Or even someone good with electrics and knows the ignition system well on a mark 1 that's willing to even talk to me over the phone?

My number's 07763 746 537

Anyone at all pleaseeeeeeeeeee!

Thanks, Josh  :D

Yeah that's true haha.

What? lol, are you sure it's exactly the same?

I've replaced the coil/condenser tonight and tried firing it.

I need someone with jump cables to come and give me a jump for a couple of minutes as A) my Battery's gone dead and B) The RAC guy got me to crank it a load of times the other night so I think that with the new coil and condenser, mine might fire, however I think it might just be a bit flooded at the moment and needs turning over a few times before the plugs will be able to start firing.

if you think it's flooded take the plugs out and dry them.

DW its always quiet on friday evenings, everyone's out. And last night it was bloody freezing too! You posted at 9:12pm and followed up within 14 minutes, that's quite a short time period to wait for replies at the best of times.

I'd love to come and help out but its over an hour away for me, so that's 2 hours travel + the time it takes messing around with the car, so its quite a chunk of time to fit around work (I work weekends too, I'm on my break now).

Realistically, the best way to help yourself is to learn how to best use the search facility, there's been millions of posts (probably literally!) into the forum so someone is bound to have had a very similar problem to your own. You can do a basic search on key words but sometimes you need to read through quite a number of non-relevant threads, depending on how precise or vague the terms you used are. If this still yields no answers, then by all means add a reply to those threads (asking to clarify - a lot of people fix something and it was an easy fix in the end, but don't come back and update their "my car won't work" thread with what it was) or start your own but explain clearly what you've done already, and cite the threads you've read that are similar so that people can relate to it too.

Failing that, I'm sure there's a friendly garage in your area which would be only too happy to help you out and get your car running - for a price, of course.

Yeah I understand mate, thanks a lot for showing some concern and interest too though! Don't worry, I wouldn't expect anyone from outside the manchester area to come down and help out lol seeing as that's just taking the schmichael a bit too much!

I'm gonna try drying the plugs, cranking it over a few times to see if I can clear the cylinders and see if it even attempts to fire up or bang/splutter/cough a bit!

I'll have a bit of a search through the posts too as well to see if anything comes to light!

Thanks a lot again for all replies though guys!

I'll update to let everyone know how I get on!

Cheers, Josh
