Is this worth its price?

Used cars for sale - PistonHeads UK

Im really tempted by it but am i just going to lose 3k on it as soon as i buy it?

Ive been emailing the guy and it sounds a really nice build

I cant afford 9K for it anyway but i could get 7K, not sure if that will offend him or not!

Personally i dont think its worth the money.

I know its had a lot of work done to it but not worth that sort of cash

Scene tax is a killer.  I know I couldn't build a car to that spec for anything near that price so looking at it that way its not bad value for money BUT its 9K for a second hand 30 year old car…

A 20vT tintop seems to go for around 5-6k…

you may not be able to buld one to that spec but surely it would be more satisfying to build one half the spec if you had done it yourself ?? buying one that already done is to easy

Ive seen this car a couple of times. Some of those piccys are at Westside VW show just down the road from me.
It was in Performance Vw Magazine a couple of months ago.I happened across the photoshoot and stopped by to be nosey!

It is really clean and obviously fast, but for £9k i would want the underside to gleam as much as the top

i think it is a lot but then how much would you spend on doing one to the same spec? as for price v's age look at what some split screen camper vans go for, probably 4 times what they cost when new, and there older! i say somthing is only  worth what your willing to pay, if you think its worth it then buy. but do try and knock him down 1st!!

but really, VW scene asside, would you really go and spend 7 or 9K on a 30 year old car? its bonkers.  A car like that isn't worth more than 4K, but value is subjective I guess….

way over priced me thinks,, you can get a very good 20vt with full resto for 6k so where has the other 3k come from? i put a post up for a 2door jeeta shell and was offerd 2 cars, 10k & 8k, not even been retsored underneith just a fancy paint job and a 20vt!!

Nice but not 9k nice.

You would think they might have put more info into the add & that's not a "full" cage.

The ad is a bit rubbish considering the amount of money he wants, although the spec list is very comprehensive that he sent me and there is alot on it (1 and a half word documents on a small font!)

It appeals to me as there is nothing to do to the car and it would be ideal for me to have sat in the garage (I would probably put small bumpers on it and other little changes) and I could use it on weekends, detail it and put it back. I'm thinking of spending around 5-6k on a nice summer car and I have exhausted the possibilities and still landed back at the mk1 golf with healthy bhp figures as I love the shape and VW's!

He said 8.5k is the lowest he would take so it's out of my budget, and what I would like to reasonably pay for it anyway.

307BHP!

Very nice looking car. Most of the money spent would deffinately have gone on the 16v turbo motor, if it is truly race spec. 16V turbo is also a bit different from the now rather normal 20VT transplant.

I will post up the spec list he sent me in the next hour

I personally wouldn't buy someone elses show pony.

I'd rather build my own and it look a $hit state… At least its mine.  :D

Does this sound alright or is there anything dodgy that you wouldn't recommend?

Thanks for all your opinions and advice everyone :D

Mate the spec is amazing and it is gorgeous!!

My main worry would be maintaining it if anything that was custom went wrong on it.

Oh and put your foot down in a 300+ brake mk1, expect to buy lots of spare pants.

Back to the original question, i'd say yeah it's worth it versus the spec. If your happy in another mans ride, go for it.!!  :D
