how long is a piece of string?
Insurance is such a personal thing due to the many variables they use to quote on.
Do you think its a good deal, you've not told us a great deal about the car or you to work it out on.

F - 89 cabby. It's actually being insured as a GTi too as that's what came up on their system. But I don't think it is :-s

Heritage may be worth a try. http://www.heritage-quote.co.uk/
Although my Golf is a lower group than a GTI, I've just had a quote for £85 fully comp (second car, restricted to 3000 miles, garaged).
By the way, Mk1 GTI road tax is £220 a year (£121 for 6 months)! Any car registered before March 2001 will be categorised according to engine size and Co2 emmisions are not taken into account. Unfortunately this means old cars are often a lot more expensive to tax than modern ones. Also, only cars manufactured before Jan 1973 will qualify for free road tax as a historic vehicle.
If you're limiting your mileage for insurance purposes anyway, and only using the Golf in nice weather, it definitely makes sense and saves money to SORN it for 6 months over autumn/winter to save on tax costs.
