the sellers says that he wants the buyer to treat it as he has,

why would anyone buy a car so they can drive it about with plastic covers on the seats?

you know he's never parked in a car park……………he'd be too worried that it my get dinged or something would happen to it.

why does he own this car?

Once the car is yours you can drive/keep it as you like. What can he say after the cars been sold??? Nowt!! I couldnt let it live in the garage if i owned it. These cars are built to be driven and driven it would be

I saw the plates too. Very nice but as you say not road legal.

You have to admit tho its in fantastic condition. ive not seen one that nice in a while

I recognise the car. The seller is a forum user on here, riley I think. I vaguely remember the same car for sale about 6 months ago, at the same price.

Wouldn't you love to see and smell  this car in the flesh? Would you love to know what a near as new mk1 gti drives like?

If the car was driven too much it wouldn't be possible would it? Because it wouldn't be in the condition it is.

Im a classic car enthusiast…There's more to cars than driving them, such as looking after them, the nostalgia, appreciating them, the way a concours car feels/smells/drives.

If i get a dirty mark on what are probably the best mk1 golf gti seats around, then they won't be so any longer will they?

You obviously can't appreciate that, and thats your parogative.

But please guys…you can't comment on it without seeing it in the metal just like any other car for sale. The pictures just do not do it any justice, the way the doors/boot/bonnet close, the fact that none of the dash/trim has ever seen any silicone crap etc etc…

Are you guys not well rounded enthusiasts who can appreciate the whole aspect of the mk1 golf?

I challenge any of you to buy it…and then drive it. :)
You will end up owning 'just another mk1' but at least you are driving it right?

I hate to go on…but this is something that really winds me up.
My red one was for driving, this one is for a classic car enthusiast.

Neil.

you can't fully appreciate it by looking at it.

a golf smells like an old car!!!thats part of the fun.
a cabby smells just that tad damp in the air!!!

if i got in my golf and it smelt like a new car i would wonder why.

the truth is if i got in your golf i would probablty end up thinking "cor, it smells like my father inlaws new clio.

the smell would remind me of another memory,
HOWEVER when i get in another cabby, it reminds me of whe i first got in my cabby and smelt that used cabby smell.

i love it.

but i'm sure there are others who would love to sniff you seat! 8O

good luck mate, hope she sells to an enthusiast soon, have you tried museums?

eek thats a bit harsh but you have your own opinions. Yes its a classic car, and looks very good, apart from the illegal reg plates, but if i had a car like that I would want people to see it. To be sat in the garage all year and for it to do nothing defeats the object personally. If you can afford a car like that and want to leave it in the garage so be it.

My golf hasnt moved for months its not mint but its very low mileage, but its off the road as its not getting taxed over winter. Come march and MOT time it will be taxed and it will come out for the summer.

remember we are all different, just BECAUSE WE WANT to drive it doesnt mean were not enthusiasts!!!!!

rant over.

oh its a nice car too by the way

Me being harsh?
Get things in perspective here…Im the one being ridiculed as to why i own the car. So i think others need to realise that we are all different! Its the same principle if someone posts about a car with a massive max power bodykit, each to their own…

Where did i say anyone wasn't an enthusiast? I asked if you were well rounded enthusiasts…there is a difference…its a question for starters.
I don't think the older guys on an e-type forum for example would question why a fellow enthusiast owns their car…

I own it because i love mk1 golfs, i love classic cars in general, i love old cars that are in truly mint condition, i love cleaning it, looking at it, the fact that the paint is the very same that vw applied in 1983 etc…

But   i can appreciate that we are all at diffarent levels and enjoy diffarent things, i don't question why people purposefully make their mk1 golfs rusty :x Because its a simple fact, the owner wants to so who am i to question them?

Is that ok with you guys? Enough reason for me to own it and enjoy it?

It could be at shows winning competitions but personal problems have always got in the way if you really must have a reason for it not doing so.And like i say, i get plenty of enjoyment from owning it.

whatalotafun, why the hell would a mk1 golf smell like a clio? It smells like a mk1 golf probably did when it was new. Don't you think thats cool? as a fellow mk1 golf enthusiast?

Nathan, if you want to take it out and get it muddy, and damage the original paint…buy it.

My guess is that you wouldn't buy it as you obviously aren't really into mint old cars from the sound of it? Thats cool.  8)  :) Like I say we are all diffarent.
But rather than question my reasons for ownership, something like… 'not my thing' would be more reasonable rather than silly quotes like 'id drive it' or 'id get it muddy' or 'why would you want to own it'

Neil.

i don't think anyones ridiculing you, and i'm sorry you feel that way if it was anything i said.

i personally just did'nt like the way you said that this car is not for someone who would like to drive it everyday.

sorry mate.

P.S. this is most peoples thing (but they may want to drive it)

Something like this should be preserved in the best way possible IMO so I understand people who dont want to drive them a lot.

People spend thousands restoring a car to concourse condition to look original but 9 times out of 10 they just arent because of whats been replaced. Not many people can say their concourse car is as original as this mk1 (as far as I can tell from the add) so I would do anything to preserve it, even if it means not to drive it often or at all.

The only way I could justify having this is if I was loaded so that it wasnt thousands spent on something I cant use the way its supposed to be used. As riley said, theres more to cars than driving them. I think being able to look at it and appreciate it would make up for not being able to drive it much afterall, there are plenty more mk1s to be driven but cars like this dont come up too often.

Thats the same reason the best examples are shown in museums

fair play for keeping this in this state it looks the nuts,
Wish I had the cash at the moment, I loved to have this sitting in my little workshop/showroom for peole to look at and admire,

Some examples deserve to be preserved, this being one of them.

Weldone good luck with the sale!

Cheers lads…thats a bit more like it. :) Some appreciation of what this mk1 is actually about. I hope to god it goes to someone who will really look after it and enjoy it the way i have.

Why wouldn't you like me saying something thats so very obvious? It isn't a car to be driven every day…end of story. :|  If some lunatic wants to buy a pretty special mk1 at this kind of money and ruin it, then thats their choice but its not very sensible is it… :)
