Head room in a tintop GTI with factory sunroof?

Post

Right, my car has a factory fitted sliding sunroof and never had the seats fitted when I got it.  I've never thought about it before now if my head will touch the roof as I'm quite tall. So today I tried a normal s2 GTI seat in and there is around 1cm at most between me and the roof and thats without a roof lining, does anyone else have this problem with the standard GTI seats and what have you done to create more head room? My dad suggested cutting the bottom frames of the seats to lower them down at the back a bit. I thought about getting rid of the sunroof instead!

I'm 6ft fitted recaro seats in mine and now have loads of head room.

I'll just be having the started seats in mine, although at some point Recaros may be on my list.

Think I may do as my dad suggests cero, although I wouldn't say he always right, sometimes but not always, maybe on this occasion .

Am I right in thinking that Sirocco mk1 seats frames are the same but lower at the back?

Scirocco seats are quite a bit lower mate…
You may need to swap the slider handles over if you use Mk2 seats as they could be on the wrong side of the seat, but not a biggy…

I am 6ft4 and tried a scirocco seat in my golf and actually found it too low.

I have made up some custome frames to mount my recaros and set them at a height that suits me. Modding the original frames (if you are happy to do so) might be the best all round solution.

i'm 6'3 and had no issue on stock GTI seats, other than the odd lump in the road and my head did brush the roof lining, was easier with the sunroof open lol

now have height adjustable seats and sat on the floor, struggle to see over the front of the car lol

I think I should wait till the headlining goes back in and try a seat again and cut the frame if needed now you've said that. I would have thought it depends how reclinded you have the back is too.

If I see and scirocco seat frames cheep I might try them and see what I think.

im 6' 5" and have no problem with sunroof,i suspose it depends weather you have longer legs or body, try and get hold of a drivers Sirocco seat or a late mk1 cab drivers seat base, these are height adjustable so you can lower to the correct height, dead easy to fit just strip the seats and swap the bases over no cutting or welding

mk2 seats come with a bit of height adjustment and kind of fit straight in if thats any help, same shape just need retrimming and the lever underneath swapping sides.

Yeah I was gonna say same as above, my 1989 cab had height adjustment, so look for a pair of them! Can often find them cheap.

as you will only need the base frame, look for a seat thats ripped, worn or a rubbish colour, i got my base from scrapyard been out in rain was destroyed got it for nothing   must be someone on here breaking one with knackered seats
