The uk didn't get 4 door gti's
I suppose change the interior engine and suspension and it'll pretty much be a gti. :dontknow:

Well that explains that,, have just found otu the car has a 1.8 mark 2 conversion, so well chuffed. But where do i find a 4 door gti interior if the 4 door was never in the uk, any thoughts..

is there much diff between the interior of a 4 door gti and the uk standard 3? i would imagine the only diff would be the front seats as they wouldnt need to fold forward in a 4 door.

Gx only has two letters and Gti has three

Speeding is like masturbation, everyone does it ,but it's not something you should record and put on the internet!!

ive had 2 Gx's. The GX already has GTi seats but with different cloth. All i would do is pick a nice cloth and have them re-trimmed.
Also the GX has chrome side strips and chrome detail where the Gti had black.
The GX doesnt have the MFA unit that the GTi has.
Why do you want a mk1 5 door GTi?

usually 4door cars are cheaper to insure but having said that once youve ripped the engine out and put a GTI lump in its place the insurance company will be laughing all the way to the bank any ways so i personally dont see the benefits. maybe madmurphy just wants 2 extra panels to wax!?

As far as I remember, the GX front seats are the same shape as the GTI, but with tweed cloth rather than the sporty stripes of the GTI, so they will feel much the same.
Another point to note is that the base of the rear seats of a 5-door Mk1 are DIFFERENT than the base of the 3-door (5-door base has rounded corners to aid entry through the back doors). You can fit 3-door GTI seats into a 5-door Mk1, but the two securing arms won't attach to the floor. It'll only be secured by the tongue over the tunnel (not sure if the MOT guy will pass it if he notices).
If you really want to fit GTI seats into a 5-door, you could get an upholsterer to re-sew the GTI cover to fit over the 5-door foam and metal frame.

It's the tweed interior from a GX.
Still, the front seats are the same shape as the tin-top GTI ones, they just look different…
