You will struggle to get 9s on the rear letalone on the front!
you could get new dishes, to take them down to 7 front 8 rear, or sell them me!! lol

It doesn't matter how desparate you are, you can't fit something 9" wide into a gap too small for them.

There is a possibility……narrow the axles and modify the wheelarches to cope. Or, fit 2½" extended wheelarches.

et33 shouldn't poke on a mk1.
do the barrels not hit the suspension being that wide and with that offset?
i'd be supprised if you could get the mounting face near the hub! i'd double check et mate.
have you thought about berg cup style arches?

they dont poke that much to be fair,a decent camber may get them nearer,i should have got a picture really,i will double check ET! tbh i dont want to run those,kinda happy with just the gti arches,looking slim though isnt it

just to give you a rough idea, my 15x7 bbs' have an et of 13 and they poked this much;
had to have some work done on the arches and gave it a bit of camber and they sit flush now

i took my car to this guy;
http://www.frankiespaintshop.co.uk/
he is a top bloke and loves his vws.
he rolled the arch lip at the top only (this helps keep the wings rigidity) and flared them out slightly and on the rear he cut the lip back and re welded it in some way that keeps it all smooth so if it does scrub, the tires dont get damaged. he did a really good job of them i think.
front track is wider on a mk1 so i gave them a slight camber to get them under properly.
i also run slightly stretched tires to keep the tread under the arch.
that is about it

awesome! thanks for the advice mate,like i say any help is great,if i have to bite the bullet and sell then so be it but i wanted to see if i can get to fit to prevent doing that,he sounds like a top guy and would prove helpful,as you can see i have alot of stretch on mine so covered for that,found another pic of the rear when i first tried them on too and with an eaten rear arch :redfaced:
