When did a debate become a fishing expedition?
The fact is, the differences in a Campaign are minor, but do in themselves at a little to the value. There is a perception that they're worth more than this small amount due to the 'mystique' surrounding them, which is no great harm anyway - if you have a Campaign and sell it for ?250 more than an equivalent non-Campaign, then you probably bought it with the price premium anyway!
Historically this club owes its origins to The Campaign Register, which means that a lot of the older (longer serving) members are Campaign owners rather than the non-Campaigns. Its a similar debate to the hatchback vs cabby, or perhaps GTI vs non-GTI one. You can talk about it for ever, but the similarities are far greater than the differences so naturally, the club will stay as supporting all Mk1s.
Agree 100% with Paul here.
Just like to note that the addition of a campaign wheel is awesome.

I think in future it will be harder and harder to find a low mile original example.

Surely it is exclusivity now that counts? If you look at the register numbers there are almost the same number of Campaigns (497) and non-Campaigns (516) so not really exclusive now. In fact I would say there are more Campaigns on the road than any other year of production.
Except that technically, there are 1013 Series 2s on the register, since every Campaign is also a Series 2. In any case, its not just exclusivity, and that in itself can cause more problems (lack of spares, for example) than advantages. For example, the K70 is surely the most exclusive, and is the oldest, water cooled VW, but its not desirable. Its rare/exclusive but that hasn't increased their values.
