Brmotorsport....now with pics!!
Hello & Happy new year to you all……
I have a brm mk1 and was wanting to find out some more on its history…got a sales brochure with it and some other bits and some snippets from the guy i got it off but just interested to see if anyone remembers the car.
It has been sorned in my storage for 7 years and i will be getting it re-commissioned hopefully this year.
It is a black tin top that has covered 9k from when brian ricketts built it for his wife christine around 1990 i think.

My car was also played with by BRM, I have rung them but they appear to do invalid equipment now and didn't know anthing about the car work once done.
I was hoping they may have some records.
I would be interested to see your brochures.
Any pictures of the car, its not the one featured in the GTi video with Richard Lloyd is it?
I think we need some pictures

I've got a BR Motorsport DX lump sitting in my garage at the moment.
BR Motorsport were founded in 1985 (if memory serves) by Brian Rickets who used to work for GTI Engineering but left to found his own VW tuning company.
Most of the BR Motorsport cars sported a white sticker on the front corner of the bonnet and on the tailgate (although mine was removed when the car was re-painted).
I think there is still a car garage operating from the same site but apparently Brian is a bit jaded with the whole VW tuning thing and they just do servicing or something?

will get pics up soon….got nearly every brm brochure extra that it could of had at the time, brm152 engine,e/w,c/l,momo wheel, neuspeed t/b,audi calipers, cams, uprated headlight loom and best of all a full cloth recaro interior with big bolster seats…it is the one mk1 i have held onto all these years as anyone who knows about br will know that they were at the time thee place to get your mk1 sorted.
i did speak to them a while back and the guy i spoke to was not very helpful… they still do servicing but mainly mobility stuff now.
i did how ever speak to christine years ago about the car and she was telling me it will be worth alot in years to come and to look after it etc etc…cant see me parting with it although when i had my mk1 20v it kinda made it feel slow…really need to get it back on the road soon.
the reg on mine is A152 BRM hence the conversion and my mk1 20v had br history also having a revamp there back in the day which i had the mag article on with the car history.
im sure brian had a pretty bad car crash which buggered up one of his legs which may be why they got into the mobility stuff.
ive been told that he bought one of the last new shells and built A152 BRM with it but again word of mouth from the previous owner but christine did confirm this if i remember correctly, and it may have had a different plate on it at some point…i bought the car in 03 and have the tuning guide from 95-96 with it..it has a mk1 in it with the plate A18 BRM and has a vr with A230 BRM on it so they had various brm plates.the engine was ?2,600 installed back then…has fast road cams, ported and polished head and was mega torquey being a 1,984cc 8v.

I have recently bought the flagship mk1 from GTI engineering, she was on the cover of the 1983 brochure and as with yours, had every extra. Although a few of them have been removed like the e/w motors!!!
I share your pain trying to track down details though, GTI Engineering changed company names in the mid 90s but now still offer servicing and performance upgrades for the mini cooper S.
These cars are rare and with documented history showing their past fame, are well worth keeping. An investment if ever I saw one!

it came up on the autotrader believe it or not and i still have the advert….i have not got much history as you can imagine with the mileage but it is like a rolls to me…i will never get rid of it as i love it too much…with 152bhp on tap it is still very nippy but in todays time it would be considered slow….i have thought of modding the engine stupidly some years ago but that would just de value it.
the previous owner installed a very loud quality alpine system with amp and sub in boot and i dont know what he done but it is unreal the sound it makes…i remember him telling me not to mess with the sub as it was a special one…had audioscape door pods…..also large servo conversion for the brakes and the seats are height electric.
my plan is to sort out the paint work with a solid black spray up maybe and the suspension is a little high on the front to me…i love the 15 ronals but have loads of 4-100 rims for it when i am done playing with my vr.
if anyone needs info out the brochure let me know as it covers mk1 mk2 mk3 and polo i think.
i paid alot for it when i bought it as i bought it with the sound system..

That car looks stunning and would be my dream mk1. I use to own a Silver BRM152 Golf GTi and it was such a buzz to drive, now sold but I still have a set of those Recaro's.

I picked up a Campaign today which has 26k miles since a BRM152 conversion. (63k miles since new!)
Amongst the history file, there is a letter from BRM, saying they ceased trading as such on 21/7/00.
However my car was back with Br Motor services ltd on the same industrial estate, last May for extensive servicing.
While the bl*%^y thing was running I enjoyed the drive, I drove down to collect the car in a 911 lightweight and was certainly impressed with the Golf on the B roads coming home, great noise and quick enough!

Those recaros are exactly the same style as in my Golf G60 Edition One but obviously different colour and pattern of upholstry, they are amazing comfy seats though, much better than the Recaro Sportlines i have in my everyday mk1.

I have a detailed invoice from BR Motor services for ?1400 from last year, the previous owner drove from London to Lemington Spa to visit them, it includes, cambelt, tracking, major service and brake modifications,etc.. from what I see they seem to know what they are doing!
