wooo hoooo!
I'm slightly confused how all this bhp business is worked out but i guessed that as our cabby got 108 at the wheels (1.8 gti) & Evie is certainly keeping up with that, then hers wont be more than 110 bhp??? I have no idea. SHe has obviously lost a lot of weight as the auto box was heavier but she has a mk2 1.6 driver engine & manual box fitted with gti cams, twin choke weber, K&N and gti manifold…. I told them I hadnt increased the bhp by more than 40 but i though her old bhp might have been a bit more than 70

ok, now i have had a slight think, is bhp nothing to do with the weight of the car, if so then its just the bhp of a mk2 driver engine plus a little bit so we're ok, then they said something about power & weight too?

They must be wanting to take into account the power to weight ratio aswell? Presumably because your Mk1 with a Mk2 Driver engine in it will be pokier than a Mk2 with the Mk2 Driver engine in it! As far as I know the bhp is nothing to do with the weight of the car, but the weight of the car determines how fast/pokey (or sluggish) the engine pulls! Just think of the horses - they'd be very fast without having to drag a carriage full of people behind them!

yeah diesel dubber is on the right lines, an engine out of a heavier car in a lighter car in theory should be nippier

i get that bit ... so the bhp of the engine will be the same regardless of what car its in?

yes bhp has nothing to do with the weight of the car
bhp is the measure of the engine
Brake Horse Power. A measure of engine power.
the weight is important as the lighter the car the quicker it will be as the engine will be able to pull the car easier, therefore go faster
i tried to make that basic
basically weight does not affect the bhp figure!

ie a 1.8t in a mk1 would in theory be faster than the same engine when it was in say a passat

^ yes
its down to the power to weight ratio
the more power you have and the less weight to pull, the easier (faster) you can move the weight!
eg in non-car terms
if you have a heavy box, and a child is trying to lift it, it will be hard, but if then a body builder lifted it, he could do the task faster and easier!
its having more power to get the work done!

lol you lot are testing me, my motorsport exams aint till jan………
under steer is the front end of the car losing grip. This gives the rear of the car a tendency to carry straight on, through a corner.the front end slides toward the outside of the turn instead of turning into the corner.
slip angles of tyres come into it, but then where getting to technical
oversteer is…………….a fucking laugh in an empty carpark!

I was always told that under steer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Over steer is when you connect with the back of the car. Bhp is how hard you hit the wall and torque is how much of the wall you take with you.
