Massive Speed with Chris Barrie May 26th Fame at last

Well I had a n invite to go and loan the Golf for Chris Barries New series "Massive Speed" so my mate John and I arrived at Enstone Airfield at 9am, John and I got the coffees in and waited for the crew who arrived in the people carrier and after the Saxos were in place, the cameras were fitted to the Golf..




We went to the runway and I was filmed shooting towards the camera.
Chris Barrie turned up at 11 and took the Golf out for a spin talking to camera. Then he did a commentary on the history of the "tweeks" to make a humble Golf into a GTI


It was after we all went to the pub for lunch and had more banter with Chris that I got to rag it for the camera… getting the back wheel a foot or so off the deck..till I popped a tyre off the rim… ops:  
Filming went onto the Monte Carlo Escort Cossie

In all location 1 was a riot and we even had planes landing over our heads





we went on to location 2 which was the morrisons in Banbury to show the Golf was a very practical car and the good folks of Morrisons loaned us bags of food..
Johny sat and chilled with the crew and got the autographs in





All in all it was a top day…Chris said that the Mk1 was hugely fun and should still be made today. He is genuinley a cool guy.. The programme airs in the autumn so ill post the dates when I have them..

It was a great days fun.. the show will be on in the autumn and is looking like being on both channel 5 and the discovery channel….

what was with the saxos? were they being compared to the golf? old hot hatch vs new?

regards to the Saxos, it was to show how the "Hot Hatch" period and the massive impact of them getting stolen faster than they were made especially the Cossie.. led to free insurance on 90bhp luke warm hatches and any engine mods are out the window so people have turned to extreme body mods.. that Saxo had ?25grands worth thrown at it..... 8O

Did a quick search on autotrader for what you could buy for ?25k

Saxo… or Ferrari?  :scratch:

 we all said similar that to do that is a different type of car enthusiasm… The point they were making is that all the stick on stuff you see in motor shops like racy seat covers alloy wheel rims and your foliatec quad lamp stickers(remember them??!!)
gave rise to full on Max Boddykits as seen there.. yes the "creator" could have thrown his wedge on a Ferrari… but Ill bet he was not even thinking on those lines.. Still It did make the Mk1 look like a spritly and super nimble classic 10 fold

Just an Update………..

Seems the Series Massive Speed  starts on November 20th at 9pm on The Discovery Channel…. I think the GTI episode is later on in the series but it should be really entertaining TV.. It will make it to Channel5 too I beleive

How cool is that  8)  your have to post up nearer the time so we don't forget.

Well its a shamless bump to say that the series airs on the 4th of Dec a week today… I think the GTI will be in the Sports car Episode.. It is on at 8:30 every day from the 4th and all episodes are back to back on Sunday 17th from 10:30am

Discovery Channel website have all the listings too…

Incidentally When you see the Campaign on TV and think OOOH I want it.. Well she is up for Sale so PM me in a week or two :wink:

Well You take the wheat with the chaff..... Tonight was 4wd and had the S1 quattro giving it some Sports car episode is on the 12th 830pm
