Clarkson, Cars from Heaven and Hell

Is just released. I got a free copy as my mk1 was featured with a stripper in the boot (honest!) :wink: There is a 'chapter' on the mk1>mk5 (mostly mk5).  Favourable to the mk1 though, but not the mk2>mk4!

There is a very staged race between the mk4 GTI, a Rover 25 automatic and a  Skoda Octavia diesel.

Doubt it Doug, just read in news that he's been ill for last 6 months or so and has just past away (Seriously!) RIP RICHARD BURNS :cry:

Well done for getting in the DVD - Must have been a great experience.

I didn't even know richard burns was ill!! Only heard it on the radio this morning, Rest in piece Richard. The only English driver to win the world rally championship i think.

RICHARD BURNS

It is with very great sadness that we must announce the death of Richard Burns, the 2001 FIA World Rally Champion. Burns, who was diagnosed with an astrocytoma, a form of brain tumour, in November 2003 passed away last night Friday 25th November peacefully.  His partner Zoe, family and close friends were at his bedside.

From the outset Richard knew that the odds were heavily against him and yet he fought his illness with bravery and good humour.  Having undergone both chemotherapy and radiotherapy he was able to leave hospital in summer 2004. For a while his health showed signs of improvement but then after six months it once again began to decline.  Determined not to give up, he opted for  surgery earlier this year.  This alleviated some of the symptoms of his illness and enabled him to remain active.  At Castle Combe in August he attended a parade of the rally cars that he drove throughout his career and was touched by the warmth of the reception he received. However there was to be no miracle and in recent days he lapsed into a coma.  

The media, friends and fans are asked to respect the family?s privacy at this time. There will be a private funeral and instead of flowers the family would ask that donations be sent to Cancer Research. Well can I propose a message from the mk1 golf owners club on behalf of everyone in it to pay our respect to a great champion! If everyone agrees, then maybe it should be done by Drew? After all he is our leader!  

Sounds good to me walt. I must say whilst not making light of the death of George Best, this seems to have over-shadowed Richards death as there's barely any mention of it in the news.

I totally agree with you 'Hairyarse' - so much so I complained to ITV news.

He, like George Best was one of Britans greatest sportsmen and watching him brought great interest to me on the Rally circuit.

Very sad news. Remember being shocked at the time (2003) when I heard Burns had been taken ill (he was fighting for champoinship at the time). Since then there has hardly been any coverage of his fight for life, the media prefering to concentrate motortsport-wise on Jenson Button not winning anything :roll: .
