Insurance for 50p a day!
I'm now fed up with reading eBay ads saying that the insurance on these classic cars are ?150 a year. Where do these people, and you guys, get your insurance from?
I have been using the same insurance company (Frizzell) since I learnt and they have been the cheapest for all of my mk1s but now I have 2 gtis it would be really handy if I could get some sort of classic car insurance.
I'm 23 with 2 or 3 years no claims, insuring one gti at a time (swopping them around to take advantage of the two week grace period to try to get my 1.8 fixed) and I am paying about ?480 in a countryside postcode. Mileage limitations would probably be ok if less than 6000 a year and 3rd party ok as well.
Please share with us all the secrets to cheap car insurance.

Basically for classic car insurance you have to be over 25, have a garage to keep the car in, do 3000-5000 miles year and have another car used as your main car.
I?d be interested if anyone knows of a company that will insure more than one car at a time preferably with agreed value, ie 3+ cars on one policy
Whats this 2 weeks grace period? Can?t believe that it will exist if you ever have to make a claim. Every eventually covered except a claim???.

I use Footman James' fleet policy;
Unlimited miles
breakdown and recovery
Agreed value
Mainland Europe cover
Legal services
etc etc
Fully comp
Costs me ~?500 per annum for currently 5 vehicles (each additional vehicle only adds about ?30). I've got two additional named drivers and these are added at no cost.

Also with FJ too, although as pointed out classic policies are only really a goer once you hit 25.
I tried adding my MX-5 (a '92) to the same policy that my Mk1 was on, but it seems on the classic policies the car really needs to be 15yrs old + for this to be allowed….?
Still even with 2 seperate policies and living in the highest risk category of postcode there is, I manage to insure both my cars fully comp with agreed value and breakdown cover on classic policies with FJ for about the same as I used to pay for my previous car on an ordinary policy.
Neither of my cars is garaged (small premium for that) and neither have Cat 1 alarms (just immobilisers). I pay about ?600 a year all in, although this may go up as I am in the midst of a claim for damage to the MX-5
Cheers,
Chris
